GIVEAWAY! An Audio Meditation for Desire

I have a bright shiny new audio meditation for connecting to desire that involves a relaxing visualization into a beautiful throne room where the desires of your mind, heart, and body will be revealed to you in the surface of a crystal pool.
All you have to do to get this meditation is write me a 5-star review on Amazon of my new book Want: 8 Steps to Recovering Desire, Passion, and Pleasure After Sexual Assault (Mango 2019). Here’s how:
1. Order the book (if you don’t already have it) on Amazon (https://amzn.to/2UTKAO5).
2. Read it. Read most of it? Read a chapter at least! Just try not to throw it against the wall…
3. Write me something nice on the Amazon review page. 5 stars, pretty please!
4. Send me a screenshot before August 1st over email, DM, or however you like (@juliejcp or oceanandcrow @ gmail.com) with your email address so I can send you the meditation!
That’s it! The 5-star rating and the volume of reviews really help other people find my book. It’s an algorithm thing. So if you want to help other people find my book about life after sexual assault, you can do this thing that will really help me–and you get a beautiful audio meditation out of it. And if you want to help but don’t want to get involved with Amazon, I would also love a review on Goodreads (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/44459835-want) Giveaway closes Aug 1st.
Thank you!

Images and Excerpts from my new book Want with Andi McLeish

Check out the beautiful photographs by Andi McLeish for each chapter of my new book Want: 8 Steps to Recovering Desire, Passion, and Pleasure After Sexual Assault (Mango 2019). The book is organized into my eight steps to recovery, including Survive, Feel, Rage, Forgive, Pleasure, Eat, Sex, and Love. Each one explores some aspect of healing from sexual assault and abuse and finding the courage to heal. Andi and I worked together to create images that would embody the mood of each step, and I’ve shared them with you here.

There is nothing explicit in the images or excerpts, though they are meant for adult eyes. See them in all their glory here: https://www.jcpeters.ca/books/want/exclusive-photos-by-andi-mcleish-for-want-by-julie-peters/

SHE DOES THE CITY Interview with Julie Peters

SHE DOES THE CITY Interview with Julie Peters

Check out this lovely little interview I did about my new book Want: 8 Steps to Recovering Desire, Passion, and Pleasure After Sexual Assault (Mango Media) with She Does the City.  We talked about how I got my desire back through the process of healing trauma and why it’s so rare to talk about women’s pleasure and desire after experiencing sexual assault or abuse. We also talked about what the recovery process looks like for different people and how to support someone you love who’s been through it. A Hidden History of Policing Female Pleasure (And Power)

A Hidden History of Policing Female Pleasure (And Power) from The Establishment

Check out this excerpt from my new book WANT: 8 Steps to Recovering Desire, Passion, and Pleasure After Sexual Assault (Mango 2019) in The Establishment! It’s all about the power of desire, the courage to heal, and the magic of sexual healing. Bonus, you get to learn about witches and see some of the gorgeous photos of me by Andi McLeish.

Pleasure has always been policed, in some way or another, in cultures across the world. That’s because pleasure is, in a way, a source of resistance.

In her book Vagina, Naomi Wolf argues that women have a special relationship with pleasure in that, when we have the right kind of it, we are feisty, powerful, and strong, and when we don’t, we can lose our will to stand up for ourselves. The way our pelvic nerves translate pleasure from our sexual experiences to our brains boosts the hormones that make us strong and connected and dampen our vulnerability to depression and lethargy.” (Keep reading…

An Interview with LadyBossBlogger

I was recently interviewed by Elaine Rau, the LadyBossBlogger, who focuses on female entrepreneurs. We talked about my new book WANT: 8 Steps to Recovering Desire, Passion, and Pleasure After Sexual Assault (Mango), which is about healing trauma and coming back to desire after sexual abuse or assault, as well as what it’s like to run a small business and which women are role models for me (my mom is one of them!) In this interview, you’ll learn:

  1. How this writer and yoga studio owner found the confidence to go her own way and make her business work for her
  2. The one course you can take to connect your self-reflective practices to the moon phases whenever you need them
  3. How her new book WANT: 8 Steps to Recovering Desire, Passion, and Pleasure After Sexual Assault (Mango 2019) can help empower survivors and their loved ones to live rich and joyful lives after trauma
  4. What books to read that will teach you about how the nervous system holds trauma, how relationships work, and how to manage your finances without worry
  5. The one piece of advice that will empower you in your business and help you move forward with what you really want to do
  6. Where to find guided meditations and reflective practices to help you empower yourself to connect to your body, your power, and your pleasure in everyday life

My new book WANT: 8 Steps to Recovering Desire, Passion, and Pleasure After Sexual Assault (Mango 2019) comes out this April, which also happens to be Sexual Assault Awareness Month. I wrote this book as a sort of tongue-in-cheek how-to guide for surviving sexual assault. I wish I’d had this kind of guide when I was going through it myself. Sneak Peek: An Excerpt from WANT: 8 Steps to Recovering Desire, Passion, and Pleasure After Sexual Assault

How Yoga kept me from Recovering from Sexual Assault:

An Excerpt from WANT: 8 Steps to Recovering Desire, Passion, and Pleasure After Sexual Assault (Mango, April 2019)

Yoga has been a major tool for helping me learn how to feel. Unlike most other forms of exercise, yoga is based on the idea of mindfulness: get into a pose and think about how it makes you feel. It was in yoga that I learned that my emotions are absolutely connected to my physical flesh. Yoga taught me that I could observe the emotions that were arising, and, rather than react to them, embrace them and let them be present and flow in their own way. Yoga taught me how to be okay with being uncomfortable, and how movement and breath could help me calm down, slow down, and, in many cases, ease my physical pain.

Yoga also, however, thoroughly f*cked me up. ….

My New Book WANT: 8 Steps to Recovering Desire, Passion, and Pleasure After Sexual Assault

WANT: 8 Steps to Recovering Desire, Passion, and Pleasure After Sexual Assault

Huge news! My new book WANT: 8 Steps to Recovering Desire, Passion and Pleasure (Mango Media 2019) is now available to order on Amazon! I am so excited to finally be able to announce that this book exists and it is ready to be read by you.
This is the most vulnerable, closest-to-my-heart thing I’ve ever written and I am incredibly excited and just a little bit terrified to have it out there. It is my story, my experience of sexual assault, and everything I learned in the process of recovery. It’s meant to be accessible for anyone who has been through something similar as well as for anyone who is curious about what the recovery experience might be like. I want you to sit down with this book and feel like you and I are talking over a long glass of wine and having a great time doing it.
If you want to support me and this book and help other survivors find it, the best thing you can do is order it now (and eventually write an Amazon review!). That helps Amazon know that this is a book people should read! And, of course, tell all your friends. Here is the link to more info and to order: https://amzn.to/2UTKAO5
